We test the NexTorch - TA1 (shown above) and it started with
a bang, literally. The representative showing us the
light at the SHOT SHOW dropped it on the hard floor.
We all laughed and she picked it up. She had enough
confidence in her product that she said "we drop them all the
time and they work great, here go ahead". Not
wanted to offend her I had no problem dropping it again on
the hard floor and was amazed the little flashlight held up
without a scratch on it.
We decided to test the TA1 in a law enforcement setting and
put it in the hands of as many cops as we could in the first
week. Regardless of hand size everyone
loved it, and literally had to pry it from the hands of a
few co-workers to get it back.
The light is very basic and that is what seems to be most
appealing to almost everyone who held it. With so
many functions available on some lights there are still many law
enforcement officials who just like being able to turn the
light on and off without having to cycle the light through
several clicks just to get it to turn back off.
The light is powered by a single AA battery, and when you open
the box it comes with two tail caps to put on the one that
best suits your needs. You can either twist the cap to
make the light stay on or depress the button to make it stay
on, but either way if you lightly depress the button the
light will turn on allowing momentary activation.
For output the light boasts 60 lumens via an LED bulb (which
is great for a long life), and has a run time of 80 minutes.
The light also has a holster
available (we have yet to get one in hand yet) that allows
the officer to activate the light from his or her duty belt
or hip. The tactical design features a number of attributes that
officers can utilize and we plan to feature more photos in
the coming weeks.
For around $40.00 there is an instant value, and we
anticipate this being a suitable flashlight for law
enforcement regardless of their assignment. Check back
